Sanitation

The Sanitarian is responsible for ensuring compliance with the State of Connecticut Public Health Code regulations and requirements. This includes, but is not limited to: soil testing or new and repair of septic systems; feasibility studies for subdivisions; plan reviews, issuance of permits, and inspections of septic systems; well permits; approvals for swimming pools, decks, building additions, etc.

The Sanitarian also conducts complaint investigations, oversees food service inspections of food service establishments, performs West Nile Virus surveillance for the State department of Environmental Protection, and addresses other public health issues. Bioterrorism has emerged as an important public health issue.
